Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
