Bouldering in the National Park

Even absolute beginners will soon be ascending sheltered Peak District outcrops on this two-day program. Non-Representational Art in Andalucía

This historic hillside village, a ancient town in Andalucía, approximately a short drive from Granada, is the stimulating setting for this painting holiday. Painters of all abilities – including novices – will discover how to conceive and execute modern art. Part of the schedule will be spent outdoors, working on tutorials out in nature. These sketches and watercolour studies will then be developed in the studio, with participants completing multiple interpretive scenes in acrylics to be displayed in the local community. The group has sole use of the venue, which is set around an open courtyard and has a rooftop with panoramic vistas over the hills. The fee encompasses five days of art instruction; all meals; and an trip to the nearby fortress and additional points of interest.

Plant-Based Culinary in the Algarve

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, based at a villa by the river in the inland Portuguese region, is inspired by the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. Guests will master the art of selection of small dishes, attend a hands-on falafel session, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses like spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the local market and a nearby winery to sample Portuguese wines, plus leisure time for strolls by the nearby river, to relax on the terrace or take a dip in the infinity pool. The villa, a renovated rural property, has multiple rooms, plus safari tents in the grounds.

Hip Hop in Buckinghamshire

This energetic camp is an uplifting, inclusive three-day adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The format throughout the camp is a high-energy warm-up session, followed by several hour-and-a-half workshops covering various street dance styles, then an 60-minute freestyle session to demonstrate new moves. Dancers are split into groups based on skill level, so it is suitable for those who are brand new to street dance, right up to experienced performers or instructors. The camp doesn’t include lodging but there are several hostels and hotels within walking distance, and it is 23-35 minutes by train into London.

Maritime Singing Weekend in Cornwall

This coastal town is the excellent location for a maritime music retreat. Guests will learn historic sailing songs from a experienced musician, and try their hand at writing their own. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, performance tips and a closing performance. The retreat is based at a country house overlooking the bay. Full board are provided, including a Cornish cream tea on arrival, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and evening meals. Grog, unfortunately, is not included. Creative Writing in Crete

Writer and lecturer Greg Mosse leads the daily workshops on this authors' getaway. He explores everything from plot, characters, setting and tension, to sending manuscripts to publishers. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host special sessions at the beginning and end of the week. The retreat is held at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the foot of the Lefka Ori – ten private accommodations are set around a central garden with a pool (companions are welcome to come along). On the last night, budding authors mark the occasion with a concert in the courtyard and a farewell dinner.

Introduction to Apiculture in Mid Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of courses on sustainability: from wildlife gardening to upcycling. This two-day introduction will help attendees understand the basics of apiary management, study the biology of honeybees and discover their environmental benefits. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to de-stress in the centre's sustainably managed forests, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, bats and uncommon bird species. Bed and breakfast the night before is 80 pounds, and all meals and lodging during the course is 97 pounds.

Sailing for Beginners in the Blackwater Estuary

These new summer sailing weekends are spent on dinghies and keelboats on the Blackwater estuary. They are designed for adult beginners starting out or those with some knowledge who want a refresher. Participants can hone their helming, build their seamanship and work towards the Royal Yachting Association’s certification levels in a supportive atmosphere. There are non-residential and overnight options, with accommodation in simple dorms in the waterside sailing school. The non-residential package provides lunches, while the overnight option includes two nights’ accommodation and full board, from full English breakfasts to evening barbecues.
